A Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) is a unit of the Naval Construction Force (NCF) that provides construction and disaster recovery support to naval, marine, joint and combined military forces and civilian authorities when directed. That support includes the full range of general engineering tasks and limited combat engineering tasks including horizontal construction (roads, bridges, and airfields), vertical construction (structures, buildings), utilities construction (electrical, water, sewage systems) and specialty construction (water wells and quarries). An NMCB is capable of defending itself and is therefore capable of defensive combat operations. To be ready to accomplish the above mission whenever called upon, NMCB 28 aggressively trains and operates to remain proficient in construction and defensive combat operations.
