CDR Michael Read was born in Manchester, NH. He received an active duty commission in the United States Navy Reserve in November 1990 after completing Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. After completing Civil Engineer Corps Officer School, he reported to his initial assignment to Naval Security Group Activity, Adak, AK as the Assistant Public works Officer. He was then assigned Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE in Coronado, CA. Upon Completion of his tour, he entered the Inactive Ready Reserve.
CDR Read re-affiliated with the Civil Engineer Corps Reserves in 2003. His initial assignment was with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWENTY TWO in Fort Worth, TX. In 2006, he was assigned as the Battalions Executive Officer. His tour with the Battalion included a very successful mobilization in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned as the Al Qaim Area Commander for the Battalions forces in Western Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He then completed a tour and was mobilized with the NINTH Naval Construction Regiment in support of PACOM and NORTHCOM, serving as the Assistant Operations Officer. He also completed a successful tour with the FIRST Naval Construction Division where he served on the Naval Expeditionary Force Battle Force Battle Staff. Most recently he was assigned to the NAVFAC Contingency OICC.
CDR Read has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of New Hampshire. He is qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and a Fleet Marine Force Officer. He is a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards).
In the civilian sector, he is the President of Read Architectural Products, LLC in Lewisville, TX.
