Captain Gruzesky enlisted in the Civil Engineer Corps Collegiate Program in 1986. He was commissioned as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer through Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in 1987.
His initial active service included tours with: Officer in Charge of Construction, Marianas as Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction; Naval Air Station Memphis as Deputy Director, Public Works
Engineering and Facilities Support Contract Manager. Reserve tours include Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWENTY as Administrative Officer; Environmental Engineering Unit Atlantic as Facilities Design Engineer; Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO FOUR as Detachment Officer-in-Charge and Delta Company Commander; Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarters as Deputy Manpower Officer; Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWENTY ONE as Operations Officer, U.S. Joint Forces Command as Engineering Division Officer; Navy Personnel Command as Individual Augmentee (IA) Manager, U.S. Pacific Command as a Contingency Engineer, and Commanding Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO FOUR; Chief Staff Officer, NAVFAC Contingency OICC and Flag Assistant for Officer Manpower, NAVFAC, Commanding Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO FOUR. He is currently the Commander of FIRST Naval Construction Regiment.
Captain Gruzesky has returned to active duty three times since his initial active service. He was recalled to active duty in 2003 as the Officer in Charge of a Heavy Air Detachment while serving as Operations Officer for NMCB TWO ONE. This detachment deployed to Guantanamo Bay Cuba and the Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center, Andros Island. He returned to active duty in 2006 at the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN to serve as the Individual Augmentee (IA) Manager for Seabees and CEC Officers. He was recalled in December 2008 in preparation of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO FOUR’s Iraqi deployment.
Captain Gruzesky is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky. His decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
Captain Gruzesky holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Kentucky, and is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA and U.S. Marine Corps Institute Command and Staff College. He is certified through Defense Acquisition University as a Level II Contracting Officer, a Level II Facilities Engineer and is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.
