Ashore Class A Mishaps

As of 16 May 2013

 

Navy - Operational Shore

  • 28 Mar 2013: (Marana, AZ) E-7 died from a parachuting accident while conducting military free fall parachute training.
  • 19 Feb 2013: (Oahu, HI) E-6 died during a planned open ocean swim evolution.
  • 23 Oct 2012: (Crane, IN) Fire damaged battery test and evaluation building and contents.

Navy - Operational Motor Vehicle

  • 15 May 2013: (Fort Knox, KY) E-4 turret gunner died when HMMWV with eight occupants rolled over while executing a turn.  

Navy PT

  • 08 Apr 2013: (NSB Kings Bay, GA) E-4 died while jogging on base.
  • 31 Oct 2012: (Lemoore, CA) E-6 collapsed on treadmill during physical training and later pronounced dead. 
  • 24 Oct 2012: (Newport, RI) E-5 Officer Candidate collapsed during PT and could not be resuscitated.

 

Marine Corps - Ground On-Duty

  • 18 Mar 2013: (Hawthorne, NV) Seven Marines were killed and seven Marines and one Sailor were injured in a night mortar field exercise. 

  • 12 Mar 2013: (Twentynine Palms, CA) E-2 died in a bulldozer mishap while participating in an Integrated Training Exercise.

  • 26 Feb 2013: (Perris, CA) E-5 died during parachute operations training.

  • 15 Jan 2013: (Kompong Chhang, Cambodia) E-5 suffered a permanent total disability from injuries sustained by unexploded ordnance. 

  • 31 Oct 2012: (Afghanistan) E-4 died of an accidental gunshot wound.

Marine PT

  • 29 Nov 2012:(Jacksonville, NC) E-9 collapsed in workspace after PT and later pronounced dead in the hospital.  

 Marine Corps - Operational Tactical Vehicle

  • 19 Apr 2013: (Joshua Tree, CA) HMMWV crossed center line and hit oncoming vehicle, killing a civilian occupant.  
  • 14 Dec 2012:(Afghanistan) E-5 was killed in an ATV rollover. 
  • 09 Dec 2012:(Camp Pendleton, CA) Navy E-4 was killed after he was ejected during a HMMWV rollover.

Marine Corps - On-Duty Motor Vehicle

  • 09 Jan 2013: (Abilene, TX) E-7 died on 18 Jan from injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle mishap. He was driving a government vehicle.
