Senior Chief Phillips was born September 22, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Flint, Michigan in 1978. He attended Donavan Catholic Middle School and graduated from Flushing High School in June 1995. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1995.
He completed recruit training in Great Lakes, Chicago and transferred to NTTC Meridian, Mississippi for AK "A" School. Upon graduation of "A" School, he reported to USS Kearsarge (LHD3) homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia where he completed two deployments to the Mediterranean and African theaters, and was advanced to AK2 and earned his Aviation Warfare Specialist pin.
His next assignment in June, 2000, was the Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) School at FASOTRAGRULANT in Brunswick, ME. During this tour, Senior Chief Phillips completed the SERE course and logistically supported the command.
In February 2001, after his billet was civilianized, Senior Chief Phillips transferred to the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Station Brunswick where he served as the Tool Control Petty Officer, and was advanced to AK1 in October, 2002.
His next assignment in June, 2003 was the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. He completed one deployment to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as the S-1 purchasing agent and the S-8 LPO and earned his Surface Warfare Specialist Pin. During his tour he was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and became the Hazardous Material LCPO.
In June 2007, Senior Chief Phillips transferred to Naval Special Warfare Development Group where he served as Warehouse Leading Chief Petty Officer, Operations Chief, and Logistics LCPO. He completed two deployments to Afghanistan, serving as an independent Logistician in 2008, and as a task force Senior Enlisted Advisor from 2009-2010, and earned his Expeditionary Warfare Specialist pin.
In April 2012, he reported onboard Tactical Training Group, Atlantic (TACTRAGRULANT) as the Logistics Chief, was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and subsequently assumed the duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor.
Senior Chief Phillips is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) in addition to various unit and service awards.
