Director of Submarine Inspections 

 
 

Captain Terry Takats


After 2 years of enlisted service, CAPT Takats received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and subsequently graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. After commissioning he attended the nuclear power and submarine officer training programs.

 At sea, CAPT Takats served in various division officer positions on USS PARCHE (SSN 683), as Navigator and Operations Officer on USS HAWKBILL (SSN 666), as Submarine Liaison Officer on the staff of Commander, Western Hemisphere Group, as Executive Officer on USS OHIO (SSBN 726)(GOLD), and as Commanding Officer of USS MICHIGAN (SSGN 727).

His shore assignments have included tours as Materiel Officer and Shift Engineer at Nuclear Power Training Unit, Charleston, South Carolina, the Naval War College as a student, and on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy in the Office of Program Appraisal, as Director, Secretary of the Navy’s Action Team, and as Director, White House Liaison Office. After his command tour of duty, CAPT Takats served on the staff of Commander, Naval Submarine Forces as Senior Evaluator on the Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team, and as an IA at the Office of the Defense Representative, Pakistan prior to reporting to the Board of Inspection and Survey as Director of Submarine Inspections.

CAPT Takats’ personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (1 gold star), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 gold stars) and the Navy Achievement Medal (1 gold star). He holds a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
