Captain Daniel Henderson
Captain Daniel P. Henderson enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1979. Upon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Center and Service School Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he served aboard USS W. S. Sims (FF 1059), USS Preble (DDG 46), and Service School Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. Throughout his enlisted career, he participated in numerous Cold War Operations while deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, North Atlantic, Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. He was commissioned as an Ensign under the Limited Duty Officer Program.
Captain Henderson’s first assignment as a commissioned officer was as the Engineering Maintenance/ Main Propulsion Assistant on USS Preble (DDG 46). During this tour, he served as Staff Material Assistant for COMSTANAVFORLANT where he completed deployments to the North Atlantic and the Caribbean. Following this, he served as Commander, Naval Beach Group TWO Staff Material/Training and Readiness Officer; deployed to the Persian Gulf and served as the Officer in Charge for the Reconstitution of the Maritime Propositioning Force (MPF), following Operation Desert Storm. Other assignments included: Chief Engineer on USS Samuel Eliot Morison (FFG 13); Production Officer at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Norfolk, Virginia; Staff Material Officer for Commander, Mine Countermeasure Squadron THREE in Ingleside, Texas; Chief Engineer on USS Saipan (LHA 2); Maintenance Officer/Waterfront Operation Officer for Commander, Regional Support Group, Mayport, Florida; Commanding Officer, SIMA, Pascagoula, Mississippi and served on Joint Task Force Katrina Staff; ACOS for Material, Engineering, Training and Logistics for Commander, Amphibious Group TWO; deployed as a member of Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO to the Fifth Fleet AOR; Director of Hotline Division for Naval Inspector General; and Fleet Technical Support/Engineering Department Head for Norfolk Ship Support Activity, where he later served as the Executive Officer. In February 2011, Captain Henderson reported as Commanding Officer, Center for Naval Engineering. After the SWOS and CNE consolidation in February 2012, Captain Henderson reported the Board of Inspection and Survey where he serves as the Director for Expertise Management.
Currently, Captain Henderson’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit (2 awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards) and various unit citations and campaign medals.
