
Captain Mark Metzger
Captain Mark Metzger, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1989 with a B.S. in Political Science.
Following completion of the Nuclear Power and the Surface Warfare training pipeline in 1991, CAPT Metzger reported aboard USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47). He served as Communications Officer and deployed in support of Operation DESERT STORM. In 1993, he reported to USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) and held leadership positions in Engineering and Reactor Departments.
CAPT Metzger reported for duty as Operations Officer aboard USS NICHOLAS (FFG-47) in 1995. During his tour, he participated in Persian Gulf Maritime Interdiction Operations and several bilateral and multi-lateral exercises. CAPT Metzger next served as Reactor Electrical Assistant on USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), which deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation DESERT FOX.
CAPT Metzger reported as Executive Officer of the forward deployed frigate USS GARY (FFG-51) in 2001. During his tour, GARY deployed on short notice in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM and participated in numerous exercises with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force and Republic of Korea Navy.
From 2007 to 2009, CAPT Metzger commanded USS CARR (FFG-52). During his tour, CARR deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Commander FIFTH Fleet and later to the Caribbean for NAVSOUTH operations.
CAPT Metzger first served ashore at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island earning a M.A. in Strategic Studies and National Security Affairs. He reported to the Navy Staff in 2003, where he served as an Action Officer in the Strategy and Policy Directorate (N51). From 2004 until 2006, CAPT Metzger served as an Action Officer in Policy Division, Director for Strategic Plans and Policy (J-5), Joint Staff, responsible for revising the Unified Command Plan. CAPT Metzger also served as Deputy Force Nuclear Propulsion officer (N9) for Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic.
Prior to assuming his present role as Director of Craft and Auxiliary Force Inspections and as a Senior Inspector at the President, Board of Inspection and Survey, CAPT Metzger served as the Engineer officer on USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65). During his tenure, ENTERPRISE completed a six-month deployment to the FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet areas of responsibility.
His awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and numerous unit and campaign medals.
