Commanding Officer
A native of Florida, Captain Gurley graduated from the University of Florida in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and received his commission after completing Officer Candidate School in Newport. Following submarine training, he served aboard the USS La Jolla (SSN 701) from 1987 to 1990 participating in Western Pacific submarine operations and completing submarine warfare qualifications. Executive Officer
CDR Bill Swick, a native of Hudson Valley, N.Y., graduated from Villanova University in 1996. CDR Swick served aboard the USS Boxer (LHD 4) as the Data Systems Officer from 1996 to 1998. Here he completed his surface warfare officer qualifications. CDR Swick reported to Destroyer Squadron Twenty Eight (CDS-28) from 1998 to 2000 and conducted operations in the Mediterranean Sea. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a Navigation Instructor in the Navy Reserve Officer Trainer Corps at Old Dominion University.
