Chief of Staff
A native of Centerville, Ohio, Captain Rhett Jaehn is a 1988 Navy ROTC graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering degree.
Captain Jaehn was the Commanding Officer on USS GEORGIA (SSGN 729)(GOLD) from May 2012 to June 2014. USS GEORGIA earned the White Personnel “P” and Battle Efficiency “E” Awards for 2012 and 2013.
Captain Jaehn’s other sea tours include a division officer tour as a plank owner on USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) (GOLD). During his tour, WEST VIRGINIA completed three strategic deterrent patrols and earned the Battle Efficiency Award. He also served as Engineer on USS SCRANTON (SSN 756). During his tour, SCRANTON deployed to the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic, earning the Battle Efficiency Award. Additionally, he served as Executive Officer on USS AUGUSTA (SSN 710). AUGUSTA conducted two overseas deployments including operations in the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, and Red Sea to conduct strikes in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. AUGUSTA earned a Navy Unit Commendation and the Battle Efficiency Award. Captain Jaehn commanded USS TENNESSEE (SSBN 734) (GOLD). During his time in command, TENNESSEE completed three deterrent patrols and an extended refit period.
In addition the Submarine Officer’s training pipeline, his shore assignments included a tour as the Flag Lieutenant for the Commander, Submarine Group TEN in Kings Bay, Georgia. He also worked as an action officer on the Joint Staff J6 in Washington DC where he was assigned to the Networks Division and worked on Department of Defense and Intelligence Community messaging programs. At the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, Captain Jaehn was a plank owner of a CNO Special Projects Group and graduated with distinction, earning a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. After the Naval War College, he served as Executive Director and Sea Strike Director on the Tactical Analysis Group at Submarine Development Squadron Twelve. Following his command tour, he reported as the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Irregular Warfare Module Head at Tactical Training Group Atlantic and was responsible for ASW training for all Atlantic Strike Groups and Destroyer Squadrons. He also served as the Deputy Director for Operations for the Commander Submarine Forces Atlantic.
Captain Jaehn is privileged to wear the Battle Efficiency “E” ribbon (five awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards), Navy Unit Commendation, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (six awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (four awards).
