Master Chief Albert John Ondo was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 3, 1971. He enlisted as a Cryptologic Technician Technical in the United States Navy on November 7, 1994, and completed Basic ELINT Training at NTTC Corry Station, Pensacola, FL.
In September 1995, he reported to NSGA Norfolk, Virginia as a Direct Support Operational ELINT (OPELINT) Analyst where he supported military operations around the World. During this tour he was advanced to Petty Officer Second Class.
In July 1998, he transferred to Commander Second Fleet as the Staff Assistant Electronic Warfare Officer, embarked on USS MT WHITNEY in Norfolk, Virginia, where he worked tirelessly towards the development and operational application of Maritime Information Operations. During this tour he was advanced to Petty Officer First Class and earned Enlisted Surface Warfare designation.
In September 2002, upon completion of Technical ELINT (TECHELINT) Analysis School at the National Security Agency, he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer and transferred to Navy Information Operations Command Menwith Hill, Harrogate, United Kingdom. He led a 110 Person Multi-National/Multi-Service Non-Communications Exploitation Department and filled multiple roles within the Menwith Hill Navy organization.
In June 2006, he transferred to USS SAN JACINTO, completing the Advanced Electronic Warfare Applications and Combat Systems Senior Enlisted Courses enroute. He served as the Operations Department LCPO and Electronic Warfare Officer, completing a BS Degree in Management Studies from the University of Maryland and advancing to Senior Chief Petty Officer in May 2008.
In August 2009, he transferred to NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command, Naples, Italy where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for 109 Sailors across four UICs, and as an Information Operations Branch Staff Officer. His tour was highlighted by Info Ops support to Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR, NATO’s crisis response mission to the Libyan Arab Spring Uprising, and promotion to Master Chief Petty Officer in June 2012.
In November 2012, he transferred to Navy Information Operations Command Whidbey Island, Washington where he is serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. He earned Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare designation in April 2013.
Master Chief Ondo’s personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (2), National Security Agency Senior Enlisted Military Performer of the Year (2005), Association of Old Crows Outstanding Achievement Award (2008), and the COMNAVSURFOR Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award (2008). He is an October 2012 graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 169; Class President and Dean’s List).
