Sugar Groves Branch Medical Clinic is staffed with a two full-time Healthcare Providers. A Physician Assistant who is Nationally Certified in Primary Care and GYN, a Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman, and two General Duty Corpsman.

A wide spectrum of primary care services are offered, including physical exams, health and occupational maintenance, well baby exams, immunizations, and gynecologic services.

Obstetrical patients are consulted to Harrisonburg, VA or Petersburg, WV, but the clinic will evaluate and treat routine primary care complaints unrelated to the pregnancy.

There is a fully equipped emergency management room in our clinic, which enables us to stabilize and transport utilizing ACLS, PALS, and Neonatal Resuscitative protocols. All emergent patients are stabilized and transported by our base Fire & Rescue services, which is staffed by full time certified paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters.

Clinic services are available for all Active Duty, Active Duty Family Members, Retirees, and their families who are signed up with this clinic.

Dental care is available on base for Active Duty only, and provided by a dental team based out of Washington Navy Yard Dental Clinic. Additionally, the dentist and accompanying technicians will visit the base quarterly for routine examinations, caps, fillings, and other minor care.

Active Duty Family Members will need to seek dental care in the civilian community utilizing Concordia Dental Program. Note: If you are transferring from an overseas duty station where you were not enrolled in Concordia Dental, you must re-start your dental program through your PSD services prior to transfer.

This area is decidedly rural. The nearest civilian clinic is in Franklin, WV some 22 miles away. The nearest hospital is Rockingham Memorial in Harrisonburg, VA or Grant Memorial in Petersburg, WV (both an hour away).

The clinic utilizes many civilian providers for specialty referral services either in Harrisonburg, VA or Petersburg, WV. When at all possible, this clinic will consult to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD (170 miles away) for its routine referrals and consultations. Please understand there are no civilian providers who are Tricare Prime vendors or participators, so there may be a 15% added charge above the Tricare allowable out of pocket for all personnel consulted to a civilian provider. This includes emergency care.

Because of the isolated nature of the duty, it is imperative that both you and your command complete the Overseas Screening Process within 15 days of receipt of your orders. This ensures that any specialized care you or your family needs is readily available.

Feel free to contact the clinic with any question or concern.
