Master Chief Simmons enlisted in the Navy in 1991 and attended Boot Camp in Orlando, FL. Upon completion of Boot Camp, he was assigned to NTTC Corry Station where he completed Cryptologic Technician Communications (CTO) “A” School and follow on “C” school Tactical Intelligence Operator. Following his training at Corry Station, Master Chief was assigned to the USS CHOSIN (CG 65) home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI serving as one of the ship’s TACINTEL Operators and also becoming the ship’s leading Special Intelligence (SI) Communicator during a period of decreased manning. Of note, it was here where Master Chief Simmons met his long time mentor CTOCM(ret) Craig Taylor. Master Chief Simmons credits most of his Naval success to the continued mentorship of Master Chief Taylor.
In July 1995 Master Chief transferred to Naval Security Group Activity, Kunia, Hi where he served as a Special Intelligence Communications Watch Supervisor for the Eastern Pacific SI Afloat Communications mission.
In December 1998 Master Chief transferred to the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in Suitland MD. In addition to successfully filling the roles of JDISS Division LPO and SPINTCOMM Operations Manager, he achieved the coveted rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Following his tour at ONI, Master Chief was assigned to the USS PELELIU (LHA 5) in San Diego, CA. There he served as the Leading Chief Petty Officer for the ship’s Cryptologic and Electronic Warfare division.
In 2005 Master Chief transferred to the Fleet Intelligence Training Center Pacific (FITCPAC). While there, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and assigned as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
After a fulfilling tour of duty at FITCPAC, Master Chief transferred to the USS BLUERIDGE (LCC 19) in forward deployed Yokosuka, Japan. There he served as the leading Information Technician for the ship’s Information Systems Department. While there Master Chief advanced for the final time as he achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
