Senior Chief Petty Officer Amber L Betts is a native of Kentucky. She entered the Navy in April, 1992 and attended Boot Camp at Recruit Training Center, Orlando. Following recruit training, she reported to Ft. Devens, MA for Cryptologic Technician Collection (CTR) "A" School followed by “C” School (KEELAN Operator) in Pensacola, FL.
In August 1993, she transferred to Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Edzell, Scotland. During this tour she served as a KEELAN Operator and High Frequency Direction Finding (HFDF) Operator. In March 1995, Senior Chief Betts completed HFDF Operators Course in Pensacola, FL and transferred to NSGA San Diego where she served as HFDF Watch Supervisor.
In December 1998, Senior Chief Betts transferred to the USS Boxer (LHD4) in San Diego, California. During her assignment she completed two deployments to the Persian Gulf. She was designated Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and advanced to Petty Officer First Class. She also attended Command and Control Tactical Analysis Course (C2TAC). Upon completion of this assignment in January 2002, Senior Chief Betts transferred to Reserve Cryptologic Activity-West in San Diego, California where she served as the Lead Instructor and was selected as the Naval Reserve Security Group Sailor of the Year. In January 2005, Senior Chief Betts transferred to the USS O-Kane (DDG77) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where she deployed to the Persian Gulf supporting Command 5th Fleet Operations and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.
In March 2007, Senior Chief Betts deployed to Kalsu, Iraq with 725th Brigade Support Battalion (Airborne) where she served as the Electronics Warfare Officer. Upon completion of this assignment she transferred to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) where she served as the Detachment LCPO and was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer. In July 2011 Senior Chief Betts transferred to NIOC Pensacola where she serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader.
Senior Chief Betts is entitled to wear the Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare (IDW) and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) insignias. Her decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), and various campaign and service awards.
