CAPT Jeffrey S. Scheidt, USN  
Commanding Officer - Designate

A native of Lansing, Michigan, Captain Scheidt entered active service from the University of Michigan Naval ROTC program in December of 1990 after graduating with a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.

He was commissioned as a Special Duty Officer (Cryptology) and attended initial training at the Naval Security Station, Washington DC before reaching his first duty station at Naval Communications Area Master Station WESTPAC, Guam.  During his two-year initial tour, Captain Scheidt served as the Administrative Department Head, Legal Officer and Cryptologic Maintenance Officer.  In 1993, he began studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey CA where he earned a MS in Electrical Engineering and a subspecialty in Space Systems Engineering.  After graduation he completed a three year tour in Chantilly, VA serving as SIGINT research and development engineer and Flag Aide to Director, National Reconnaissance Office.

In 1999, Captain Scheidt began his first sea duty aboard the USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) as the Ship’s Signals Exploitation Division Officer where he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer while deployed in the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.  Following selection for LCDR, he was assigned to Tactical Training Group, Pacific in San Diego CA where he instructed prospective Commanding Officers, Warfare Commanders, and Afloat Staff on Cryptologic, Intelligence, and Information Operations.  He then returned to sea duty as the Cryptologic Resource Coordinator for Commander U.S. THIRD Fleet embarked on USS CORONADO (AGF-11).

In 2004, Captain Scheidt transferred to the staff of Commander, Naval Security Group at Ft. Meade, MD.  During his tour Captain Scheidt led strategic planning efforts for the Information Warfare Officer Corps and the Cryptologic Technician ratings: CTR and CTT.  After promotion to CDR, he transferred to the staff of Commander, Carrier Strike Group NINE embarked on USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CNV-72) in May 2007 as the Deputy Information Warfare Commander.  This tour included deployment supporting Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.

Captain Scheidt later served as the Executive Assistant to Director, Navy Information Operations and Director, Cyber Sensors and Electronic Warfare on the CNO staff from 2009 to 2010.  From November 2010 to July 2012, Captain Scheidt commanded Navy Information Operations Command Bahrain providing combat effects for Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and ENDURING FREEDOM, and supporting Maritime Security Operations in the NAVCENT area of responsibility.

Captain Scheidt recently completed a tour on the Joint Staff as the Chief, Cyberspace Policy Division within J5 where he led development of DoD concepts for cyber warfare, worked closely with National Security Council Staff and other agency partners to advance national cyber defenses, and partnered with regional combatant commands to engage close allies for greater collaboration in cyber defense.

 Captain Scheidt is married and has two children.
