What is an Ombudsman?
Hi, my name is Anna and I am the ombudsman for NCTS San Diego.
As your ombudsman, I have been appointed by the Commanding Officer (CO) of NCTS (Naval Computing and Telecommunications Station) San Diego. I am a volunteer who acts as an information link between the Command and the military families. I am here to provide families with information while also informing the CO of any concerns and issues arising with the families.
The Navy understands that families play an important role and you are a valued asset. They want to make sure that you have all of the resources and information that you need to have a successful tour - a happy family makes for a happy sailor!
As an ombudsman, I have completed training and I am required to attend monthly meetings to ensure that the information that I have, and communicate to you, the families, is as current and up-to-date as possible. I am required, as an ombudsman, to adhere to a very strict code of ethics and confidentiality. Unless the information that you communicate with me falls into one of my "reportable" categories, I cannot share the information with anyone including the Command, my spouse or anyone else (see below for Reportables).
As an ombudsman, there are a few roles that I do not fulfill. I am not a social event organizer, nor a babysitter. I am not a bank and do not lend money, nor do I offer a taxi service. HOWEVER, I can give you resources as to where you can find all of these services and information.
I am here to help you, the family member, in any way I can. Please feel free to browse the resources available here and to call or email me with any questions that you may have. No question is too big or too small.
I am available by phone 9am to 8pm for routine questions and information. I am available 24 hours a day in case of emergency.

Reportables
As an ombudsman, I am bound by a strict code of ethics and confidentiality.
ONLY the following topics will be communicated to the Command ALL other topics will remain CONFIDENTIAL

All suspected or known situations of child abuse or neglect;

Alleged domestic abuse;

Suspected or potential homicide, violence or life endangering situations;

All suspected or known suicide risks;
-
Any activity that is suspected or known to be criminal;

Any severe financial issues.
