COMMANDER eUGENE R. BAILEY
UNITED STATES NAVY
Commander Eugene R. Bailey, U.S. Navy, assumed command of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, San Diego, on 12 January 2012.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, CDR Bailey is a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in general science. He graduated from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, with his master’s degree in national security and strategic studies and he holds a master’s degree in Government Information Leadership (CIO Specialty) from the National Defense University. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, has completed the Federal Chief Information Officer certification, and the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security (NSTISSI) 4011 Certification.
CDR Bailey’s career includes more than 14 years of sea duty assignments including USS Flatley (FFG 21) as Auxiliaries Officer, Combat Information Center Officer, and finally he decommissioned USS Flatley as Operations Officer. His second division officer tour was aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1) as Combat Information Center Officer and Auxiliaries Officer. His department head tours included USS Deyo (DD 989) as Operations Officer; and Commander, Destroyer Squadron EIGHTEEN, as Operations and Plans Officer. He served in that position with the Enterprise Battle Group through deployment to the U.S. Central Command area. He has served as Executive Officer of USS Carr (FFG 52). Commander Bailey recently completed his Operational Leadership tour as Assistant Chief of Staff for C5I (N6) for Expeditionary Strike Group TWO.
CDR Bailey’s shore assignments include Surface Warfare Officer School, as a Steam Engineering Instructor, and the U.S. Naval War College. His last shore assignment was at the Joint Staff as an Action Officer in Information Assurance (J65C). He transferred to the Information Professional community in June 2009.
CDR Bailey’s personal awards include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (6), and Navy Achievement Medal (2).
