Master Chief Magnetta hails from Elmhurst, Illinois, and joined the Navy in December 1986. Upon completion of Operations Specialist “A” school, he reported to USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9), home ported in San Diego, California.

While in LONG BEACH, he participated in Operations EARNEST WILL, DESERT SHIELD/STORM, and FIERY VIGIL.  He qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist in August 1990.  In 1991, he transferred to Navy Recruiting District Chicago, Illinois, where he served as the Recruiter-in-Charge of Navy Recruiting Station Waukegan, Illinois, and was advanced to Petty Officer First Class.

Returning to sea in 1995, he was a Plank Owner in USS STETHEM (DDG 63).  During this tour, STETHEM was deployed to the Arabian Gulf, performing duties as the Regional Air Defense Commander for Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.  Continuing at sea, he reported to Tactical Air Control Squadron ELEVEN and deployed in USS ESSEX (LHD 2), again deploying to the Arabian Gulf.  He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 1999.

In 2000, he reported to USS DECATUR (DDG 73), deploying multiple times in support of Operations NOBLE EAGLE, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM.  He was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2002.  In 2002, he reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, where he trained five recruit divisions and served as a Ship’s LCPO.  Following duty as a Recruit Division Commander, he returned to sea in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) where he served as Operations Department LCPO, and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.

In 2009, he returned to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, where he trained one recruit division and served as the Student Control Department LCPO.  Selected for the Command Master Chief program in 2011, he executed his first CMC assignment in USS MC CAMPBELL (DDG 85), home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.

In July 2013, Master Chief Magnetta assumed the duties as the NAVCOMTELSTA San Diego Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Magnetta is a graduate of the USAF Senior NCO Academy and CMC/COB Course.
