ITCS (IDW/SW/PJ) John J. Behm
Senior Enlisted Leader
Senior Chief John Behm is currently assigned as the Senior Enlisted Leader at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Jacksonville, Florida.
ITCS(IDW/SW/PJ) Behm entered Naval Basic Training in San Diego, Ca. in September 1989. Upon graduation from basic training in December 1989, he attended Radioman "A" School at Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA.
Subsequently, he was assigned orders to PCU Devastator (MCM-6), in Sturgeon Bay WI. Until his ship was commissioned in Sept 1989. USS Devastator was assigned to conduct demining operations in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. The decision was to not send USS Devastator to the Persian Gulf but to do a complete crew swap at Mina Sulman Bahrain with the USS Guardian (MCM-5). After a successful 8 month tour in support of Desert Storm/Desert Shield the ultimate duty station was Mayport FL, and he finished his tour there.
Next, RM3 Behm transferred to the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE) at MacDill AFB Tampa Fl, during that tour JCSE was directly under United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and was RM3 Behm’s first experience with working with other services. During his tour at JCSE, RM3 Behm completed US Army Airborne School, and completed 56 jumps and was advanced to RM2 prior to the completion of his tour.
He then reported to Submarine Group 10, Kings Bay Ga. RM2 Behm worked at the Tech Control facility and was present when the new Extremely High Frequency terminal was installed..
His next tour took him to USS Robert G Bradley (FFG-49), He conducted 4 Counter Drug Operations during his 5 year tour onboard and subsequently was selected to ITC while onboard. His collateral duties onboard were the Command DAPA where during his tour onboard, there were no alcohol or drug related incidents.
ITC(SW/PJ) Behm then reported to Afloat Training Group Mayport Fl. He was assigned as the FFG Platform Subject Matter Expert for all Frigate communication onboard Naval Station Mayport. With the title as FFG SME, ITC Behm trained every frigate in ensuring that all FFG’s would successfully complete their INSURV and Comprehensive Communication Assessment.
His next tour was onboard USS Halyburton (FFG-40), this tour was his most rewarding as he was personally involved with the rescue of Capt Richard Marks onboard the Maersk Alabama. Upon completion of his tour onboard he volunteered for a Global Support Assignment (GSA) tour to Afghanistan. He worked with the CTF 101 and CTF 82 Airborne Divisions while he worked as the Frequency Manager during that tour.
He returned to his new Follow on command of NAVCOMTELSTA Jacksonville where he is currently the Senior Enlisted Leader.
Senior Chief Behm has been awarded the following personal decorations, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist, US Navy Master Parachutist, Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (6), Good Conduct Medal (7), Pistol Expert Medal, Rifle Expert Medal, and various other campaign and service awards.
