Lieutenant Commander James Brennan
Lieutenant Commander James Brennan graduated from Wabash College in 1997 with a degree in Liberal Arts. He enlisted in May 1997 and earned his commission through Officer Candidate School in April 2001. He earned his Information Dominance Warfare Officer qualification in August 2010.
LCDR Brennan’s initial Fleet assignment was as an enlisted Sailor to the security detachment at Naval Air Station Sigonella in March 1998. He served as the primary protective service detail for the base commanding officer until November 2000.
Transitioning to the Intelligence Community, LCDR Brennan reported to Commander, Amphibious Squadron FIVE in December 2001 as the assistant N2. He completed one Western Pacific/Middle East deployment, participating in operations near the Gulf of Oman onboard USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3).
LCDR Brennan reported to the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in March 2004. He served as the team lead for the GEOINT collection cell providing support to ONI personnel as well as fleet customers. During his tour at ONI, LCDR Brennan volunteered to deploy for six months as an Individual Augmentee to Multi National Forces-Iraq where he served as the team lead for the Sunni Arab analytical cell at Camp Slayer.
After completing his master’s degree in National Security Studies (Far East) at Naval Post Graduate School in September 2008, LCDR Brennan reported to Commander, Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) in November 2008. He served as the air wing targeting officer in two combat deployments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation NEW DAWN onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) and USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70).
Immediately following his tour with CVW-17, LCDR Brennan reported to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center (ECRC) San Diego in May 2011 for a GWOT Support Assignment (GSA) to Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, LCDR Brennan served as the Officer in Charge/Senior Intelligence Analyst for the Afghan Threat Finance Cell’s (ATFC) Bagram deatchment.
LCDR Brennan is currently serving as the Executive Officer for Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Jacksonville, FL.
LCDR Brennan’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal (3) and Navy Achievement Medal (3), and various service and campaign awards.
