CAPT Katherine "Kathy" A. Mayer, USN
Captain Katherine (Kathy) Mayer is a native of Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Program. She graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2000 with a Masters degree in Information Technology Management. Captain Mayer assumed command of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Far East on 25 Jan 2013.
Commissioned as a general unrestricted line officer, she served in various assignments in the Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS). Highlights include her recognition as IUSS Watch Officer of the Year (1991) and her assignment as the first-ever Officer-in-Charge of the military detachment onboard USNS BOLD (T-AGOS 19) in support of Exercise Dogfish (1996). In 2001, she became a plank owner of the Information Professional Community.
Additional shore assignments include Naval Facility Bermuda; Commander, Undersea Surveillance; U.S. Atlantic Command; Naval Ocean Processing Facility Dam Neck where she served as Executive Officer; Joint Forces Staff College; Naval Network Warfare Command as Executive Assistant to the three star Commander and Navy Personnel Command where she served as Information Dominance Corps and Foreign Area Assignments Division Director (PERS-47).
Fleet assignments include Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) Officer, Commander Task Force EIGHT FOUR; Assistant Chief of Staff for C4I to Commander, Carrier Strike Group TWO, embarked in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71); and Director, Fleet Communications for Commander, SECOND Fleet. During her Strike Group tour, she completed an Arabian Gulf deployment in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM and participated in Fleet Week 06 and 07, Ardent Sentry 07, and BALTOPS 07.
Captain Mayer’s decorations include Legion of Merit (3), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3) and Navy Achievement Medal.
