CMDCM Derek F. Mullenhour, USN

 

Command Master Chief Derek Mullenhour was born and raised in Granada Hills, California. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy March 1993 and graduated recruit training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, FL. After RTC Orlando, he attended Quartermaster “A” School at NTC Orlando, FL.

 
In October 1993, he reported aboard the USS OBRIEN (DD 975), in Yokosuka, Japan. He completed two tours to the FIFTH FLEET AOR in support of Operation DESERT SHIELD. He detached and reported aboard USS PRINCETON (CG 59) in 1996. During this tour he conducted a duty swap to USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54), in Yokosuka, Japan.
 
After detaching from USS CURTIS WILBUR, he reported to Naval Air Facility, Atsugi. He detached and returned to USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 2001 and deployed again to the FIFTH FLEET AOR in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM with Carrier Strike Group FIVE.
 
In October 2002, he reported to Afloat Training Group Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan. He detached and reported to USS OGDEN (LPD 5) in San Diego, CA.  He then reported to USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) in San Diego, CA. During both these tours he deployed to the FIFTH FLEET AOR in support Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
 
In December 2009, he reported for his second tour at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific where he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and earned his Master Training Specialist (MTS) certification. Upon his detachment 2012, he reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 171) (Blue Group), in Newport, RI, in January 2013.
 
After graduation, he reported to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in Yokosuka, Japan as Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer. During this tour he was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer and was selected into the Command Master Chief Program. He is a graduate of the CMC/COB course (Class 138).
 
In December 2014, he reported to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN EIGHT in Coronado, CA as Command Master Chief.
 
He is currently serving as Command Master Chief for U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Far East located in Yokosuka, Japan.
 
Master Chief Mullenhour’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (third award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seventh award), as well as various unit awards. He is married to the former Ms. Hiromi Hanafusa and has two children Reina and Kaito.
