CDR Rodney Burley, USN

 

    Commander Burley  enlisted in the  Navy in 1981 under the Advanced Electronics Program.  Completing basic training at CRUITRACOM NTC, Great Lakes, IL, he proceeded to Sonar “A” school followed by numerous assignments toFLEASWTRACENPAC as student & instructor, tours aboard USS BOWEN(FF1079); USS EDWARD MCDONNELL (FF-1043); and USS PATRIOT (MCM7).  During these tours he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation and advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He completed all requirements for Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and was presented with the breast insigia upon comissioning.

     Commissioned as a Surface Electronics (6180) Limited Duty Officer in December 1993, he was assigned to USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG-48) home ported in San Diego, CA.  Assignments included Electronic Material Officer and Communications Officer. While onboard he completed Tactical Action Officer Qualification and was twice designated ship handler of the year.  In March 1998, he transferred to Commander Undersea Surveillance, Dam Neck, VA as the Director of Electronic Material and in February of 2000 he was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the IUSS Operations Support Center in Little Creek, VA., where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  In June 2002, he reported to USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3) as the C4I Department Head where he surge deployed on two occasions in support of operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  In 2004, he was selected for lateral transfer to the Information Professional (1820) Community and transferred to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center in Norfolk, VA as the Regional Maintenance & Material Coordination Officer (RMMCO) awaiting IP assignment.

           


CDR Rodney Burley

     As an Information Professional Officer, he reported to Commander Naval Network Warfare Command, Little Creek, VA., in May 2005 as the Readiness Officer where he monitored and reported fleet & shore readiness to the Commander.  He received a Masters of Science Degree in Information Technology Management and in August of 2006 he departed on a one year IA assignment to Multi-National Forces Iraq (MNF-I).  While there, he served as the Information Management Officer and Deputy Chief, Project Management & Integration.  Returning from Iraq in September of 2007, he was assignment as Officer-in-Charge of Navy Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic Detachment Hampton Roads.  In January 2010, he was assigned to Carrier Strike Group TWO as the Deputy Chief of Staff for C4I where he embarked in USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN-77) for her maiden deployment to the C5F AOR. In 2012 he reported to 1st Naval Construction Division (1NCD), Little Creek, VA as the ACOS for Information Technology – N6.  With the disestablishment of 1NCD, in July 2013, he reported to NAVCOMTESTA Bahrain as the Executive Officer.

     Military decorations include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (10), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), and numerous Unit and Campaign medals & ribbons.
