Senior Enlisted Leader

ITC(IDW/SW) Brice E. Hern

Chief Hern is a native of Ohio State, where he graduated high school in 1994 and enlisted in the Navy the following year.  He finished his “Boot Camp” at RTC, Great Lakes, Illinois and upon completion attended Radioman “A” school onboard NTC San Diego, California.

In July 1996, he reported to USS INDEPENDENCE (CV 62) in Yokosuka, Japan.  During this tour, Chief Hern completed his first Persian Gulf deployment and was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer. After decommissioning INDEPENDENCE at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard in Washington State, he attended Transmission Systems Technician "C" school onboard NTC Norfolk, Virginia.

In February 1999, he was transferred to USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) in Yokosuka, Japan.  While onboard, MOBILE BAY deployed to East Timor before participating in a crew swap with USS COWPENS (CG 63) where Chief Hern finished his sea tour.

In March 2001 Chief Hern reported for his first shore duty tour at Fleet Industrial Supply Center Yokosuka, Japan. While onboard, He completed Information Systems Administrator "C" school, qualified Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and advanced to First Class Petty Officer.

Upon completion of his tour at FISC, Chief Hern reported onboard USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) in Everett, Washington as the Leading Petty Officer of Communications Division. During his tour, INGRAHAM deployed to the Persian Gulf and Red Sea in 2005 and again in 2007. Prior to his transfer, he was selected and advanced to Chief Petty Officer.

In February 2008, Chief Hern reported toNaval Ocean Processing Facility onboard Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.  He served as the Communications Officer at NOPF for one year before volunteering to return to sea filling a gapped billet.

Chief Hern returned to INGRAHAM in March 2009 as Communications LCPO. While onboard, he completed a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) and completed his fourth deployment to the Persian Gulf and Red Sea. In June 2011, Chief Hern transferred to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Detachment Puget Sound where he currently serves as the Detachment Senior Enlisted Leader.

Chief Hern’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and various Unit Awards.  Chief Hern is married to his wonderful wife of 10 years and has two sons.
