Commander Chris Goodson, a native of Lincolnton, NC enlisted in the Navy as a Radioman in 1991. His enlisted tours where USS John F Kennedy (CV 67) and Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Atlantic. He was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP) in 1999 while at NCTAMS LANT. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Norfolk State University in 2000 and received his commission in July 2000.
After initial SWO Division Officer training at Newport, RI, he reported to USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) for his first Division Officer tour as Communications Officer and EKMS Manager where he deployed with Amphibious Task Force, EAST providing communications and network support for embarked Marines, EOD and Seal Teams during the initial ground phase campaign of Iraqi Freedom. His Second Division Officer tour was on USS COLE (DDG 67) as Fire Control Officer.
His first Department Head tour was onboard USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) as Chief Engineer where he screened for Early Command of a PC/MCM class ship. His second Department Head tour was at COMPHIBRON 8 as Training Officer, N7. He laterally transferred to Information Professional in 2010 while at COMPHIBRON 8, becoming the C5I Officer, N6 for his Milestone tour.
He reported to Navy Information Operations Command, Norfolk as Navy Blue Team Director. He led Navy Blue Team Cyber Quick Response teams during a front line execution of a high priority real world cyber operation across the Navy Cyber Domain in support of Commander, Fleet Cyber Command cyberspace war fighting objectives.
CDR Goodson holds a Master of Science degree in Information Systems Technology Management from Naval Postgraduate School. JPME Phase II and Joint Command and Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence Staff and Operations course graduate from Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA. Chief Information Officer Certificate program graduate from National Defense University, Washington, DC.
CDR Goodson’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and various Unit Awards.
