Captain Herman L. Archibald is a native of Aliceville, Alabama. He entered the Navy in 1981 and was commissioned via the Limited Duty Officer Program in 1992. He was selected for re-designation to Information Professional (IP) in 2003. He is an Information Dominance Warfare and Surface Warfare qualified officer with sea duty experience in Aircraft Carriers, Amphibious Ships, and Cruisers. Operationally, he has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom /Operation Iraqi Freedom, Desert Shield/Storm, and various missions in the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.
As an Information Warfare Community Officer, Captain Archibald’s afloat and ashore billets include: Officer-In-Charge, Naval Communications Detachment Souda Bay, Crete Greece; Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Combat Systems and Intelligence Officer, USS Nassau (LHA-4); Principal Assistant for Combat Information Systems, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75); Deputy G6 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Gulf Region Division/Project and Contracting Office Baghdad, Iraq; IP Junior Detailer, Naval Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee; Commanding Officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station in Manama, Bahrain; C4I and Information Superiority Officer, U.S. Second Fleet/Combined Joint Operation from the Sea Center of Excellence Norfolk Virginia; and Chief Information Officer Governance Branch Head, U.S. Special Operations, Tampa, Florida. Captain Archibald served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for C4I/N6 and CIO at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. Fifth Fleet, and Combined Maritime Forces Manama Bahrain in March 2015 to May 2016.
He holds an Associate of Science degree in Electronic-Communications Management from Georgia Military College; Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies from Regent College; Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Phoenix; and a Master of Strategic Studies from Air War College. Captain Archibald is a proven subspecialist in General Operations and Manpower Systems Analysis and Management, is designated as a Joint Qualified Officer, and is authorized to wear the Command Ashore insignia.
Captain Archibald’s military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service and joint expeditionary medals and ribbons.
