 WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

Stay informed of the BRAC process! In addition, you may want to familiarize yourself with information on reduction in force, placement programs and transition assistance.

Ensure you have an up-to-date resume, using the resume writing tips and information found on our website or research information about retirement and benefits. This will better prepare you to make decisions and exercise options that are right for you should your installation be faced with realignment or closure.

We can give you most of the information you need, but the ultimate responsibility for your future belongs to you. The sooner you begin planning; the smoother the transition will be overall.

 ADDITIONAL HINTS

  • Participate as soon as you're eligible in all available job placement programs.
  • Create or update your resume on USAJOBS. Make sure you list ALL of your skills and work experiences on your job application or resume
  • Respond promptly to requests you receive for additional information.
  • Get familiar with recruitment sites such as USAJOBS or Career One Stop.
  • Be ready to consider job offers seriously and respond to them quickly. This means preparing your family for transition as well.
  • Start thinking about where you might be willing to relocate. Be flexible, if you're willing to move, you'll have more job opportunities and a much better chance of being placed.
  • Don't limit your job search. Include non-DoD Federal agencies, private industry, and both state and local government.
  • Start researching your retirement and benefits options. Are you eligible for retirement, what would be your retirement estimate? What benefits will be available if you retire?
