Full Title Introduction to Supervision #J13-08
Description Today’s supervisor needs to be prepared to handle the diverse twenty-first century employee. This program is designed to help new supervisors transition into their new role with ease. New and better learning opportunities will allow managers and supervisors to improve work performance of others and to grow and develop with the needs of our changing workplace. The core values of communication skills, problem solving, interpersonal skills, coaching, team building and conflict management will be addressed.
Supervisors will learn to:
• Acquire the skills needed to supervise others effectively
• Overcome barriers that hamper communications and master tips to improve listening skills
• Generate new styles to give and receive feedback
• Master new ways to delegate work to your employees
• Gain techniques to coach employees and help them be more productive in the workplace
• Understand how to deal with all types of employees including difficult employees and workers of various ages and generations
• Learn how a team can pursue shared objectives
• Realize the various styles of mentoring and discover how your own personality affects your work style and performance
• Learn new approaches and perfect strategies that will support your work style and the work style of others
• Find effective ways to deal with conflicts and ways to problem solve for success
Eligibility Recommended for both military and civilian employees who supervise DON civilians

Registration Information Fax your SF 182 to HRSC SE, ATTENTION: LUCY GALSTER, FAX DSN: 868-2400 or Commercial (228) 871-2400. Class size is limited and enrollment will be on a first come first serve basis. This course can only be attended by those activities that have the ability to pay using the government purchase card. The cardholder’s name, mailing address and commercial telephone number must be in block 6. In addition, please provide your email address on the SF 182. The course coordinator should be notified immediately of any need for special accommodations, i.e., wheelchair access, sign language interpreter, reader, etc.
Cancellation To cancel an employee from training after submission of a SF 182, written notification must be received prior to the registration deadline. Substitutions after the registration deadline are authorized provided the POC is notified prior to class date. Failure to do so will result in the activity paying the tuition fee.
