 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT (MAY 2010)

MS. PATRICIA ADAMS, DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE NAVY (CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES)

I WANT TO WELCOME EVERYONE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES WEB SITE.

MY GOAL IS TO GIVE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY LEADERSHIP, EMPLOYEES, AND POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES THE INFORMATION THEY NEED AND TO ENSURE THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY HR COMMUNITY IS AS UP TO DATE AND TRANSPARENT AS POSSIBLE.

EACH MONTH WE WILL FOCUS ON ITEMS OF IMPORTANCE AND INTEREST AND IT’S HOPED THAT YOU WILL TAKE TIME TO DISCOVER MORE ABOUT THESE THEMES WITHIN THE PAGES OF THIS WEB SITE.

WE WILL ALSO SPOTLIGHT A CIVILIAN EMPLOYEE EACH MONTH ON OUR HOME PAGE. OUR GOAL IS TO GIVE POTENTIAL AND CURRENT EMPLOYEES A CHANCE TO SEE THE DIVERSE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND WORKING LOCATIONS AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY TEAM.

NEXT MONTH, OUR FOCUS WILL BE ON A DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY AND GOVERNMENT-WIDE PRIORITY: THE FEDERAL HIRING PROCESS. THOUSANDS OF NEW POSITIONS ARE BEING ADDED OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS. THIS MONUMENTAL TASK IS BEING MET WITH CREATIVE IDEAS AND HARD WORK. IN MANY AREAS OF THE NATION, FEDERAL JOB FAIRS ARE COMMONLY HELD TO RECRUIT FOR THESE GOVERNMENT CAREER POSITIONS.

FINALLY, AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, THE NSPS PAY FOR PERFORMANCE SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPEALED BY THE 20-10 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT. IN FEBRUARY, DOD APPROVED THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S NSPS TRANSITION PLAN AND WE HAVE ALREADY BEGUN ADVERTISING COMPETITIVE PLACEMENTS FOR NSPS VACANCIES TO BE FILLED UNDER THE GENERAL SCHEDULE. THE MAJORITY OF DEPARTMENT OF NAVY EMPLOYEES ELIGIBLE TO TRANSITION TO THE GS SYSTEM WILL DO SO BY 30-SEPTEMBER, THIS YEAR.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT GROWING AND CONTINUING TO DEVELOP OUR CIVILIAN WORKFORCE, AND, I LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING UPDATES AND KEEPING YOU INFORMED OF OPPORTUNITIES THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY CONSISTENTLY HAS TO OFFER. SO PLEASE SPEND SOME TIME LOOKING AT THE INFORMATION PRESENTED FOR YOU HERE AND AGAIN, WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES WEB SITE.
