 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT (MARCH 2011)

WELCOME BACK TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES WEBSITE.

THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY IS FIRMLY COMMITTED TO ENSURING THAT OUR WORKFORCE REFLECTS - AT ALL LEVELS - THE NATION THAT WE SERVE. TO ENHANCE OUR EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE THIS, DON HAS ESTABLISHED A DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP COUNCIL. THIS COUNCIL IS COMPRISED OF SENIOR LEADERS WHO WILL WORK TOGETHER ON THE ISSUES OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX, AGE AND DISABILITY THAT IMPACT OUR WORKFORCE.

THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL WILL DISCUSS RECOMMENDATIONS THAT ADDRESS THESE ISSUES AS WELL AS HIGHLIGHT POSSIBLE METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION. THEY WILL ALSO ORGANIZE EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS DESIGNED TO EDUCATE AND COUNSEL POTENTIAL LEADERSHIP CANDIDATES. THE COUNCIL WILL PRODUCE AN ANNUAL LIST OF “LESSONS LEARNED” FROM THEIR EXPERIENCES IN THE INITIATIVE AND WILL RELAY THESE LESSONS TO THE UNDERSECRETARY OF THE NAVY.

THE DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP COUNCIL FILLS TWO CRUCIAL ROLES: FIRST, IT IS AN ADVISORY BODY THAT COMMUNICATES TO THE UNDERSECRETARY THE CONCERNS – AND SUCCESSES – OF THE DON WORKFORCE. SECOND, THE COUNCIL IS A RESOURCE FOR THE ASPIRING LEADERS AMONG US.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, PLEASE EXPLORE OUR WEBSITE AND LEARN ABOUT DON’S CONTINUING EFFORTS TO PROVIDE AN INCLUSIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR EMPLOYEES AND ENSURE EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL.
