 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT (AUGUST 2010)

WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S CIVILIAN HUMAN RESOURCES WEB SITE.

I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT’S EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM. EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF READINESS. IT IS VITAL TO ATTRACTING, DEVELOPING AND RETAINING A TOP-QUALITY WORKFORCE IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S STRATEGIC MISSION.

OUR E-E-O PROGRAM EXISTS TO ENSURE ALL PERSONS ARE PROVIDED EQUAL ACCESS TO THE FULL RANGE OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL.

PROVIDING EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL EMPLOYEES AND APPLICANTS THROUGH CLEARLY DEFINED HUMAN RESOURCES; E-E-O POLICIES AND PROGRAMS GIVE US THE FOUNDATION WE NEED TO PROACTIVELY PREVENT DISCRIMINATION BECAUSE OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, AGE, OR DISABILITY.

WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY, MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSISTENT IMPLEMENTATION OF E-E-O PROGRAMS THAT ARE EFFICIENT, RESPONSIVE, AND LEGALLY COMPLIANT. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS RESPONSIBILITY IS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE DEPARTMENT’S ANNUAL E-E-O ASSESMENT PROGRAM.

FOR THE FIRST TIME SCORECARDS WERE ISSUED LAST YEAR TO EACH COMMAND RATING THEIR PROGRAMS. THIS ASSESMENT TOOL WAS DESIGNED TO ALLOW A MORE TOPDOWN FOCUS AT THE COMMAND LEVEL. AND, BEGINNING THIS YEAR, COMMAND ASSESMENT RESULTS, THAT ARE DUE IN OCTOBER, WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE FORCE MANAGEMENT OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, CHAIRED BY THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE NAVY FOR MANPOWER AND RESERVE AFFAIRS.

THESE EFFORTS HELP ENSURE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY PROVIDES A WORKFORCE THAT REFLECTS THE NATION WE SERVE BY ELIMINATING BARRIERS TO EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY, AND SUPPORTING FULL EMPLOYMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, TO INCLUDE OUR WOUNDED WARRIORS.

SO PLEASE, READ MORE ON THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY’S EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM AND REMEMBER, EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF READINESS.
