Dr. Megan Cramer

Employee Spotlight

Dr. Megan Cramer is the Principal Assistant Program Manager for Future Capabilities within the Mine Warfare Program Office. She is also the Science and Technology Lead for the Program Executive Office Littoral Combat Ship. Dr. Cramer and her team focus on bringing new types of information-sharing, knowledge-management and platform-based technologies into the expeditionary, tactical arena.

In doing this, she works with a number of different offices. Based at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters, Dr. Cramer also spends time at the warfare centers as well as the Office of Naval Research. Additionally, she helps build crucial relationships with academic and industry partners.

She works to integrate the benefits of the common technology we use today - web email, cloud computing, smart phones, mobile devices, and apps, to name a few – into the tools our Naval forces use. By combining her understanding of these technologies with her knowledge of the priorities and needs of the Department of the Navy, Dr. Cramer helps to "facilitate the transition of mature technologies into our Navy acquisition programs."

At the same time, however, she also supports efforts to work in a disconnected environment. "In our everyday lives, most people are always connected. One of our team's challenges is to take into consideration, and design into our system's architectures, the ability to work successfully in a disconnected environment," she says.

Megan particularly values the opportunity to provide a bridge between modern technology and the mission of the DON: "For me, what's most exciting to me about my job is harnessing these technologies and putting them to use for our war fighters."
