If you are enrolled in life insurance and are called to active military duty, you can continue your life insurance coverage for up to 12 months at no cost. At the end of 12 months in nonpay status, the free coverage terminates. Your enrollment will continue temporarily for 31 days at no cost to you and you have the option to convert to a private policy.
However, at the end of the initial 12 months, you may continue your life insurance coverage for an additional 12 months if you pay both the employee and agency share of the premiums for the Basic coverage and the entire cost (there is no agency share) for any Optional insurance you may have. At the end of 24 months in nonpay status, your coverage terminates. Your enrollment will continue temporarily for 31 days at no cost to you and you have the option to convert to a private policy.
