You are eligible to continue your dental and/or vision coverage while you are in a nonpay status, but you are responsible for paying the premiums directly to BENEFEDS on a post-tax basis through a direct bill method. This means you will receive a bill at your home address for the premiums. You must pay this bill by the due date specified on the bill or your coverage will be terminated. You cannot incur a debt for the premiums. Once you return to a pay status, premiums will be withheld from your salary.
If you are a Federal employee and expect that you will go into a nonpay status and/or be paid only during certain months of the calendar year, you may qualify for the Accelerated Payment Option that allows you to use pre-tax dollars to pay premiums for periods when you are in a nonpay status.
