CWO3 Joseph Thomas hails from Folkston Georgia. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1993 as an Electronics Technician.  After graduating Boot Camp in Orlando, Florida, he went on to attend Electronics “A” and “C” school and reported to his first ship USS Platte, AO-186 in Norfolk, VA in September 1995.  During his enlisted career he completed several tours both CONUS and OCONUS highlighted by his selection as Chief Petty Officer on USS Gettysburg FY07 and ending with a tour at Office of Naval Intelligence, Suitland, Maryland where he was selected and commissioned for designator 7420 Information Systems Technician Chief Warrant Officer January 1, 2010.

Following his commission he attended Mustang University in Newport, Rhode Island and reported to his first duty station at NCTAMS PAC, Wahiawa, Hawaii March 2010.  He was first assigned as N63 Division Officer and then quickly volunteered as an Individual Augment to Combined Training Group Afghanistan (CTAG-A).  During his deployment to Afghanistan he was stationed at Camp Alamo and was billeted there as an advisor to the Afghan National Army (ANA) in their mission to commission the countries first Signals Communication School.  After returning to NCTAMS PAC in June 2011 CWO3 Thomas qualified as NCTAMS PAC Joint Fleet Telecommunications Operations Center Watch Officer (JFTOCWO) and also Information Dominance Warfare Officer (IDWO).  He remained on the JFTOC watch bill for the remainder of his tour.  He reported to USS New York in September 2013 as the ships Communications Officer where he qualified as CDO, SUWC and TAO completing a successful 5th and 6th Fleet Deployment.  After leaving the ship in September 2015 in route to his new command he attended Maritime Staff Officer Course in Newport, RI.  He reported to COMUSNAVSO/4th Fleet as U.S. IANTN Detachment OIC/Communications Planner in September 2015.  His PRD is September 2018. 

CWO3 Thomas is married to Erica Thomas from Folkston, Georgia and has three Sons, Benjamin (11), Zachary (9), and Andrew (5) that all currently resides in base housing at Mayport, Florida.  He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a BS in Electronics Management in May 2004.  His awards include a Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal (6) and various other unit and campaign awards.
