Week 1 - Build Resilience
All major products for the entire month were released during Week 1 for use by Suicide Prevention Coordinators, to assist with planning discussion and activities for their commands (archived in the links to the right). Plan of the Day Notes were supplied to help kick off the month. Subsequent weekly releases supplement and support discussion and use of the four products.
Week 2 - Navigate Stress
Week 2 communications supported the use of Individual Stress Navigation Plans. A Navy NewsStand article and NavyNavStress Blog post explored the importance and usefulness of this tool to foster readiness before a crisis occurs.
Week 3 - Encourage Bystander Intervention to ACT
Week 3 communications supported the Seven Everyday Ways to Promote Suicide Prevention Awareness. A NavyNavStress blog post explored ways to sustain prevention efforts and encourage bystander intervention beyond September. LifeLink Newsletter reinforced the concept through awareness and encouragement surrounding the message "It's Okay to Speak Up When You're Down." A new suicide prevention cartoon product illustrating bystander intervention by Mike Jones, Senior Chief and publisher of Ricky's Tour, was also introduced.
Week 4 - Reduce Barriers to Seeking Support Through Counseling
Week 4 communications surrounded the What's in a Word? products (How we Talk About Suicide & Best Practices for Reporting on Suicide in the Media). When we discuss suicide, as SPCs, Chaplains, leaders, shipmates, or even concerned family and friends, our words can impact whether or not a Sailor chooses to seek help. Knowing how to discuss suicide is critical to promoting help seeking behavior and reducing the risk of subsequent suicide. A NavyNavStress blog post explored the topic, while cartoonist Jeff Bacon illustrated the importance of knowing how to approach someone who needs help navigating stress. The winning Suicide Prevention PSAs were announced to culminate the month with messages from Sailors' points-of-view.
