DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY ADOPTION REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
An active-duty member who adopts a child under 18 years of age may be reimbursed for up to $2,000 in adoption expenses per child, not to exceed $5,000 per calendar year. Only one member of a dual-military household may claim the reimbursement.
To qualify, the adoption must be arranged by a state or local government agency within the United States, or a nonprofit agency authorized by a state or local government within the United States. Adoption of children from overseas locations is reimbursable, but the agency or coordinator must be recognized by a state government in the United States. Travel expenses to pick up the child may not be reimbursed.
