Frequently Asked Questions About CSADD
Who can participate in CSADD?
CSADD is intended for junior Sailors that are E-5 and below and between the ages of 18 to 25. However, anyone can participate in the program.
Is CSADD a mandatory Navy program?
No. CSADD is 100% voluntary. Chapters are founded only when there is interest for CSADD at the junior level. Command leadership is always encouraged to inspire CSADD Chapters but this should not be a group that is formed as mandatory fun or run by a First Class or Chief Petty Officer.
Are bylaws necessary to form a chapter?
No. Bylaws are optional, but they can be used if the chapter decides they are necessary. Seek command guidance on the desire to develop bylaws.
Does the Chapter Advocate need to be an E-6?
No. It is preferred that the Chapter Advocate be a junior Sailor, E-5 and below and between the ages of 18 to 25. However, an E-6 can fill the position if necessary or be a sponsor assigned as by the Command Master Chief as a liaison if desired.
What does the Chapter Sponsor do?
The Chapter Sponsor is the liaison between the Senior Leadership and the CSADD chapter. Sponsors will also track the progress of the chapter and its impact on the command, as well as being the senior mentor for the chapter.
Does the Chapter Sponsor have to be a Senior Enlisted Advisor (CMC, CSC, SEL, etc.)?
It is preferred that the Command’s Senior Enlisted Advisor be the CSADD Sponsor, but it can be delegated down to an Sailor that is E-6 and above.
How do CSADD chapters "train"?
There is no set training outline for CSADD. Chapters have the ability to "think outside the box" for how they cover the CSADD topics. However, regular classroom based training can be derived from the monthly topic sheet and creativity should be the power of the group as to how they can best communicate with their peer group the importance of each topic.
