Impaired driving crashes are one hundred percent preventable. Maintaining a level of self-control and staying
responsible while drinking alcohol is within everyone's ability, whether at a party, at the bar, or anywhere else. If you decide to drink, designate a driver that will forgo drinking ANY alcohol that night. A designated driver ensures that you all get home safely.
You can Give the Gift of a Designated Driver (DD) in three easy steps:
- Commit to lead by example by drinking responsibly and never drinking and driving.
- Choose at least one night from November 19, 2017 through December 31, 2017 to serve as a DD.
Print one of our Give the Gift of a DD gift cards below for your shipmates, friends and/or family members to redeem for a safe ride home.
Don't forget to plan ahead and check out the tips below to be a responsible DD! The Keep What You've Earned campaign's Pier Pressure mobile application features one-click access to Uber, Lyft and 1-800-Taxi. Look for these and other tool's in the app's Safe Ride section. Designated Driver Do's and Don’ts
DO plan ahead and ensure that the designated driver gets the keys before the drinking begins.
DO treat your designated driver to dinner or non-alcoholic drinks as a token of appreciation.
DO take turns being a designated driver by setting up a schedule or rotation among your shipmates.
DON'T consume any alcohol if you are a designated driver.
DON'T make the same person be the designated driver every time.
DON'T assign a designated driver once the night has begun by selecting the 'least drunk of the bunch.'
