NAVAL BASE KITSAP HAS DEVELOPED A "SAILORIZATION" PERSONAL QUALIFICATION STANDARD THAT IS ON TARGET FOR TAKING CARE OF OUR NEWEST SHIPMATES AND HAS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SUCCESS OF FIRST-TERM SAILORS. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INTEGRATE NEW SAILORS INTO NAVY LIFE, SHAPE THEIR EXPECTATIONS FOR FUTURE DUTY, AND GIVE THEM THE TOOLS NEEDED FOR CAREER AND PERSONAL SUCCESS. DEDICATED EFFORT ON BEHALF OF THESE SAILORS BY ALL NAVAL BASE DEPARTMENTS, THE FLEET AND FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER, AND THE LOCAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER HAS MADE THIS FORWARD-LEANING PROGRAM A SUCCESS. THE PROGRAM WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 2003 BY NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE BANGOR OUT OF CONCERN FOR A GROWING PAGE 02 RUEWMCS0159 UNCLAS NUMBER FIRST-TOUR SAILORS ASSIGNED TO THE BASE. 2. UPON ARRIVAL, EACH NEW SAILOR IS ENROLLED, ISSUED A SAILORIZATION PERSONAL QUALIFICATION STANDARD BOOKLET, AND ENTERED INTO THE PROCESS WITH THEIR MENTOR. THE PROGRAM INTRODUCES SAILORS TO NAVY LIFE THROUGH A SERIES OF EVENTS, COURSES AND EXPERIENCES DURING THE FIRST 30, 60, AND 180 DAYS AFTER REPORTING ABOARD. 3. WITHIN 30 DAYS OF REPORTING, EACH NEW SAILOR TOURS KEY BASE FACILITIES ESSENTIAL TO PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MORALE. FROM THE BEGINNING, SAILORS KNOW THE BREADTH OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR NAVY-SUPPORTED RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATIONAL GROWTH. COMMAND INDOCTRINATION AND MILITARY/GENERAL TRAINING HELPS SAILORS ADAPT AND COPE WITH THEIR NEW RESPONSIBILITIES AND INTRODUCES THEM TO PROGRAMS SUCH AS AWARE, PREVENT, AND THE THRIFT SAVINGS PLAN. WITH THEIR LCPO, THEY REVIEW THEIR SERVICE RECORD, SMART TRANSCRIPT AND ENROLL IN PLATO TO INCREASE THEIR BASIC SKILLS. 4. AT THE 60-DAY MARK SAILORS LEARN ABOUT UTILIZING THE MULTITUDE OF ON-LINE RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT THEIR CAREER DEVELOPMENT. A TOUR OF A SUBMARINE AND A SURFACE SHIP, ALONG WITH BRIEF UNDERWAY PERIODS, EXPAND SAILOR'S AWARENESS OF THE FLEET'S MISSION AND SHAPE THEIR EXPECTATIONS FOR THEIR FIRST SEA DUTY. WITHIN 180 DAYS OF REPORTING ABOARD SAILORS COMPLETE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES THAT EQUIP THE NEWEST SAILORS (AND IN SOME CASES THEIR FAMILIES) WITH TOOLS TO HELP THEM AVOID POTENTIAL PITFALLS THAT CAN DISTRACT FROM THEIR CAREERS AND KEEP THEM FROM ACHIEVING THEIR GOALS. 6. UPON COMPLETING THE PERSONAL QUALIFICATION STANDARD BOOKLET, SAILORS ARE RECOGNIZED PUBLICLY BEFORE THIER PEERS AT QUARTERS AND IN THE PLAN OF THE WEEK. 7. NAVAL BASE KITSAP SAILORS ARE ENTHUSIASTICALLY USING THE PROGRAM AND A MAJORITY OF SAILORS COMPLETE 95% WITHIN THREE MONTHS.
