IN THE COMING WEEKS 1,500 FIRST CLASS AND CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEXT PHASE OF THE "IMPROVING THE NAVY WORKFORCE" SURVEY FIRST ANNOUNCED LAST JUNE. WHILE I KNOW IT MAY BE TOUGH TO FIND TIME FOR THIS SURVEY, WE NEED RESPONSES FROM THESE TALENTED SUPERVISORS BECAUSE THEIR EFFORTS WILL BE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF SEA WARRIOR. 2. LAST SUMMER, THOUSANDS OF MID-LEVEL PETTY OFFICERS TOOK THE INITIAL VERSION OF THE SURVEY, AND THEIR RESPONSES HAVE TREMENDOUSLY HELPED US BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE REAL NATURE OF WORK IN NAVY RATINGS AND SPECIALTIES. THAT RESPONSE SETS THE STAGE FOR US TO POLL THEIR SUPERVISORS AND TO REVIEW AND ADD TO THE DATA ALREADY COLLECTED. 3. OVER THE NEXT YEAR ADDITIONAL SAILORS WILL BE ASKED TO FURNISH MORE INFORMATION AND CONTRIBUTE SMALL AMOUNTS OF TIME TO THIS REVOLUTIONARY EFFORT. WHEN FINISHED, THE "IMPROVING THE NAVY WORKFORCE" PART OF SEA WARRIOR WILL BE THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH ALL NAVY TECHNICAL TRAINING IS BASED. SO MUCH IS RIDING ON THIS SURVEY.
