SINCE 1989, THE NAVY HAS PERIODICALLY ASSESSED THE ATTITUDES AND CONCERNS OF ITS PERSONNEL THROUGH THE NAVY EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/SEXUAL HARASSMENT (NEOSH) SURVEY. THE 2002 SURVEY WILL BE SENT TO SELECTED PARTICIPANTS IN APRIL. 2. AS WE CONTINUE TO FIGHT AND WIN THE WAR ON TERRORISM, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT WE ALSO CONTINUE TO PROACTIVELY PROMOTE A POSITIVE CLIMATE WHERE ALL NAVY PERSONNEL ARE PROVIDED AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO GROW AND DEVELOP, BOTH PROFESSIONALLY AND PERSONALLY. PAST NEOSH SURVEYS HAVE INDICATED WE HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN THIS AREA, AND THE "PERIODIC CHECKUP" PROVIDED BY THIS SURVEY ALLOWS NAVY LEADERS TO ASSESS AND TAKE ACTION TO CONTINUE THIS SUCCESSFUL TREND. 3. THE 2002 NEOSH SURVEY WILL BE SENT TO A RANDOM SAMPLE OF ABOUT 15,000 OFFICERS AND ENLISTED PERSONNEL. TO ENSURE THE DATA WE RECEIVE ARE VALID, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL SAILORS WHO RECEIVE SURVEYS COMPLETE AND RETURN THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE NUMBER OF SURVEY QUESTIONS HAS BEEN DECREASED BY ONE-THIRD TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETE IT. 4.
