STARTING WITH THE JULY LES, TO BE DISTRIBUTED ON 1 AUG 01, THE REMARKS SECTION WILL INCLUDE A STATEMENT THAT WILL READ: "AS OF DD MMM YY [DATE NAVY SENDS ITEMPO FILE TO DFAS], NNN [NUMBER] HIGH TEMPO DEPLOYMENT DAYS ACCRUED SINCE 1 OCT 00 (OR SINCE ENTERING MILITARY SERVICE)." EACH SAILOR SHOULD HAVE A NUMBER EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN ZERO IN THEIR ITEMPO COUNTER LES REMARK DERIVED FROM THE NAVY PERSONNEL DATABASE (NPDB). THIS INFORMATION WILL BE SENT TO DFAS ONCE A MONTH FOR ALL NAVY PERSONNEL (BOTH ACTIVE AND RESERVE). 3. THE "COUNTER" REFLECTS THE SAILOR'S NUMBER OF ITEMPO DEPLOYMENT DAYS ACCRUED IN A ROLLING 730-DAY CALENDAR BEGINNING ON 1 OCT 00 (OR THE SAILOR'S ACCESSION DATE, WHICHEVER IS LATER) THAT HAS BEEN POSTED TO THE NPDB AS OF THE DATE THE FILE WAS SENT TO DFAS. SAILORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING QUESTIONS REGARDING THEIR LES ITEMPO COUNTER TO THE CHAIN OF COMMAND OR DESIGNATED COMMAND ITEMPO COORDINATOR TO RESEARCH AND ADDRESS. COMMANDS MUST ESTABLISH PROCEDURES TO PERIODICALLY REVIEW EACH SAILOR'S DEPLOYMENT HISTORY AND ENSURE THAT ALL KNOWN ITEMPO EVENTS ARE ENTERED ACCURATELY AND PROMPTLY INTO THE NPDB. ADDITIONALLY, ALL SAILORS SHOULD BECOME FAMILIAR WITH WHAT CONSTITUTES AN ITEMPO DEPLOYMENT EVENT AND WHAT DOES NOT SO THEY CAN VERIFY THEIR COUNTER.
