MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Electronic Leave (E-Leave) will be down Jan. 27-31 as part of a larger systems upgrade.
The question many may be asking is, “Can Sailors request leave or go on leave, even when Electronic Leave (E-Leave) is down?” The answer is, reassuringly, yes – with command approval, of course.
E-Leave, accessible to Sailors through the Electronic Service Record (ESR) self-service account on the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System (NSIPS) website https://nsips.nmci.navy.mil, is offline anytime NSIPS is down for software upgrades or maintenance.
But even when NSIPS is down, command leave programs must continue to function. Leave will not stop while E-Leave is offline. Personnel can still request, check out, check in from leave and request extensions.
To put this to test, NSIPS will be offline four days, Jan. 27-31, for a major software upgrade, affecting E-Leave, ESR and other NSIPS-related tools.
“Even then, personnel will still be able to go on leave,” said Milene Wagner, E-Leave project manager with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Systems Center Atlantic New Orleans Office.
In preparation for the NSIPS outage, Wagner said all command leave administrators (CLA), reviewers, and approvers established in E-Leave, received an email advising them how to handle leave procedures during down periods.
“Commands were advised to document all leave functions on paper," Wagner said. "Then when E-Leave comes back online, the CLA will go into the system and input all the leave activity that transpired during the outage – checking personnel out and in on leave, extensions and corrections, etc. – for proper processing.”
Command CLAs and personnel should make sure they use the paper “NC Form 3065 Leave Request/Authorization” to document leave activity during E-Leave outages. Members will still need to get command approval to go on leave and work closely with the CLA.
Personnel with questions on leave or E-Leave should discuss their concerns with their command CLA or contact the NSIPS help desk toll-free at (877) 589-5991 or e-mail email@example.com.
