HOW AND WHEN TO CONTACT YOUR DETAILER
Please feel free to call or e-mail me anytime to discuss career progression questions. You can find my contact information on the Contact Us page.
To discuss orders, if you are returning from an overseas tour, feel free to contact me within 10 months of your PRD. All others should contact me within 8 months of your PRD. Our goal is to identify a specific billet that meets your needs and then get your orders 4-6 months prior to your transfer date.
TWO OPERATIONAL TOURS
A crucial career milestone before you zone for LCDR. These two tours can include any combination of operational tours i.e. Department Head/DIVO, DIVO/operational, DIVO/DIVO.
Many of you have contacted me asking which billets fall into the "non-sea operational tour" category. The list of commands below have billets that are considered operational. This is the only list of commands. You need to check the billet list for the PRDs of the billets at these commands.
- AMPHIBIOUS CONSTRUCTION BATTALION (PHIB CB)
- CARGO HANDLING BATTALION (CHB)
- LOGISTICS SUPPORT UNITS (LOGSU)
- COASTAL RIVERINE GROUP (CRG)
- EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL (EOD / ESU)
As most of you know, a masters degree is a critical milestone for promotion to CDR. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to obtain your advanced degree through one of the many programs offered.
Junior Service College is an excellent way to both obtain your Master’s degree, and enter the joint/operational logistics arena. The Service College program prepares naval officers for joint assignments and greater responsibilities through joint professional military education. Assignment is based on Junior Service College selection, quota availability, career needs and individual desires. Junior Service College is available to both LCDRs and LCDR selects.
Supply Corps officers seeking post graduate education are eligible to participate in several Master in Business Administration (MBA) programs offered through the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy (BPP). These MBA programs are curriculums 815, 819, 837, 838 and 870. The Graduate School of Operational and Informational Sciences (GSOIS) offers a Master of Science (MS) degree and these programs are curriculums 358 and 361. Officers complete Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I on site while enrolled.

POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION SCREEN
Officers interested in Navy Postgraduate School (NPS) or War College opportunities are encouraged to contact the Post Graduate (PG) School 18 months prior to PRD. However, prior to beginning your PG school or War College dialogue with your detailer ensure that your record is accurate and up-to-date, otherwise PG school/ War College detailing discussions will be delayed. Based on frequent deficiencies identified by OP, utilize the following checklist to validate the completeness of your record prior to contacting the PG/War College Detailer:
1. Official officer photograph in current rank (accessible via your OMPF).
2. Academic Profile Code (APC) on file (BLK 47 on your ODC).
3. Prior formal education complete (College, Year Completed, Level of Degree, and Major or BLKs 54, 55, 58, and
59 on your ODC).
4. Warfare Qualifications reflected in your record (BLK 72 on your ODC).
5. PG School preferences on file (BLK 94 on your ODC).
Please refer to "It's Your Record" or contact the Career Counselor at email@example.com for assistance with records maintenance discrepancies.
