To take care of all U.S. Navy OCEANO (1800/6460/6462) Officer Personnel and their families, while meeting the personnel distribution needs of our Navy. We assign all personnel in accordance with Navy directives and policies to meet the needs of the Navy while striving to satisfy the professional and personal goals of the individual in a most responsive, courteous and service orientated manner.
Assignment (a.k.a. Detailing)
As Assignment Officers, we provide OCEANO Officers (1800/6460) career guidance and strive to be your main source of knowledge or information and issues that affect your career. We broker OCEANO Officer’s assignments with the detaching and reporting commands. We attempt to balance your needs with those of the Navy and our community to the greatest extent possible.
Placement
As Placement Officers, we are responsible to commands, whose billets we manage, to fill those billets with the best and most qualified officers available. We work closely with Commanding Officers and Executive Officers to ensure their wardroom is well-balanced (right mix of skill sets, adequate enroute training and experience) to accomplish their mission.
Assist with Community Management
The Officer Community Manager (OCM), BUPERS-317, is responsible for maintaining the health of the OCEANO Officer Community. They manage officer end strength to ensure the proper number of officers are on active duty, in the required pay grades, to meet community and Navy requirements. PERS-475 assists the OCM through information sharing and be projecting OCEANO Officer retirements, resignations, promotions and accessions. Along with Manpower professionals from the Oceanographer of the Navy (N2N6E) and CNMOC staffs, we routinely review the quality and diversity of our billet structure to ensure OCEANO support is properly aligned to support fleet requirements.
