Additional Qualification Designators (AQD)
AQDs are used to denote special qualifications you have obtained in your career. These qualifications play an important role in documenting your achievements and provide Selection Board members with an overview of key qualifications. AQDs show up in two places: 1) at the bottom of your Performance Summary Record (PSR) cover page and 2) in the far right column of your Officer Data Card (ODC). The next time you review your record, take a look and ensure your well-earned qualifications are documented.
Subspecialty Codes
The Navy Subspecialty System is an integrated manpower and personnel classification and control system which establishes criteria and procedures for identifying officer requirements for advanced education, functional training, and significant experience in various fields and disciplines. Similarly, the Navy Subspecialty System is used to identify those officers who acquire these qualifications. In addition to identifying qualitative officer manpower needs, the Navy Subspecialty System is used as the basis for generating the Navy's advanced education requirements.
Joint Duty Credit
Not in a JD1-coded billet? Need Joint Credit? The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2007, gave authority to The Secretary of Defense to establish different levels of joint qualification, as well as the criteria for qualification at each level. This is known as the Joint Qualification System (JQS). The JQS will be an alternative path to obtain a joint qualification.
Most officers will continue to receive their qualification via the legacy time phased system (Full joint tour in a JDAL billet + JPME I & II). The JQS will provide an alternative path for joint qualification.
Officers are able to self-nominate their E-JDA experiences having direct relevance to the joint matters definition for point recognition. A web-based application is now online to facilitate the self-nomination process. See Joint Duty Credit link to the right for info on self-nomination process.
