Additional Qualification Designator (AQD) Codes

AQD’s are assigned based upon qualified military experience and education.  Officers may request an AQD by submitting a letter, with supporting documentation, as specified in BUPERSINST 1001.39F and NAVPERS 15839I, Volume I, to Navy Personnel Command.  Upon approval, the AQD will be entered into the officer’s permanent record by PERS-911.  Please follow the below instructions for submitting NOBC requests, as they also apply to AQD requests.

Navy Officer Billet Classification (NOBC) Requests

Officers of the Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve must submit requests for NOBCs via the chain of command to Navy Personnel Command using the format and criteria contained in Chapter 9 of BUPERSINST 1001.39F.  Board packages now must be submitted directly to the NPC Customer Service Center.  Applicants may submit packages via regular mail, FEDEX, UPS, fax, or email.  There must be a letter addressed to the President of the Board with the Board number (#002) indicated:

To: President, NOBC/AQD Board (Board #002)

The next NOBC/AQD Board is scheduled for 03-07 JUNE 2013.  The required command endorsement must be received with the NOBC request, or it will be returned without action.  Packages are due to the NPC Customer Service Center by COB on 10 May 2013.  Also, please remember that only 5 NOBC and 5 AQD requests are authorized per board, and must be submitted in separate packages.  NOBC requests must have separate endorsements.
