PERS-834

PERS-834 is responsible for:

  • Review of adverse material prior to filing in an officer's permanent record
  • Requests for Detachment for Cause (DFC) of an officer 
  • Reports of NJP, civil conviction, and court martial 
  • Requests for separations for cause
  • Requests for qualified resignations 

It is highly recommended that all commands review the following references BEFORE taking any punitive action on an officer:

  • SECNAVINST 1920.6 (series)
  • BUPERSINST  1070.27 (series)
  • MILPERSMAN 1611-010 & 020
  • MILPERSMAN 1920-XXX (series)

Due to PII concerns, when submitting a report via e-mail or traditional mail, please ensure your input is sanitized. We are required to reject any report containing PII.  At a minimum, remove the following:  

  • First 5 digits of the social security number
  • Birthdate
  • Home address
  • Home phone number
  • Personal cell phone number 

*Currently, active cases take anywhere from 7-12 months to adjudicate; case status updates are available on a monthly basis. Please e-mail us at: PERS-834@navy.mil*

Request for administrative separation due to:

  • 3x PFA failure - Must have at least one letter of notification prior to 3rd failure
  • Personality/adjustment disorder - Not considered a disability - The command must specify why the service member is unable to perform his/her duties as a result of the personality/adjustment disorder
  • Loss of security clearance

Report of:

  •  Nonjudicial punishment requires a flag endorsement
  •  Final civil action requires show cause recommendation
  •  Court Martials require a show cause recommendation 
  •  Detachment for Cause requires a flag endorsement
