  VFA-103 Executive Officer: CDR Danny "WAD" Westphall  


Commander Westphall is a native of Georgia and graduated from Appalachian State University.  He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in 2001. 
Commander Westphall was designated a Naval Aviator in December 2003 and received orders to the “Greyhawks” of VAW-120 at Naval Station Norfolk, VA, for initial training in the E-2C.  His first fleet assignment was as a member of the “Wallbangers” of VAW-117.  He deployed twice with CVW-11 aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.
In March 2008 he reported to the “Eagles” of VT-7 at NAS Meridian, MS, as an advanced flight instructor flying the T-45C.  While assigned to VT-7 he received a VFA transition and reported to the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 for initial training in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
In February 2011 he was assigned to the “Knighthawks” of VFA-136 where he deployed twice with CVW-1 aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. 
In September 2012, he joined the “Gunslingers” of VFA-105 where he served as Operations and Maintenance Officer.  The squadron deployed with CVW-3 aboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In February 2016, he graduated from the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI, earning a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. 
Commander Westphall has accumulated over 3,100 flight hours and over 650 arrested landings.  His personal awards include the Strike Flight Air Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
