VFA-103 Executive Officer: CDR Patrice "Menudo" Fernandes
CDR Fernandes was born in Dakar, Senegal and grew up in Brockton, MA. He graduated from Brockton High School and enlisted in the Navy in August 1988. He attended RTC San Diego, graduated from Aviation Structural Mechanic "A" School in Millington, TN. and started his naval career with Training Wing (TW) 3 AIMD, NAS Miramar. In November 1998, at the rank of AMS1, he was selected to attend OCS under the ADM Boorda "Seaman to Admiral" program. CDR Fernandes was designated a Naval Flight Officer in September 1999.
Fernandes' operational assignments include tours with Sea Control Squadron (VS) 38, USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64); Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102, USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63); VFA-11, USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); and VFA-103, USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75).
His shore assignments include instructor duty with VFA-106 and he served as Deputy Mission Commander for Open Skies with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. He completed the Air Command and Staff College Non-Resident Program and is a former CSFWL Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor of the Year. He subsequently served as Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic Training & Readiness Representative and as the Operations Officer for VFA-106.
CDR Fernandes has accumulated more than 4,000 hours in various aircraft and more than 1,300 arrested landings. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various individual and unit campaign awards.
