Command Master Chief Spence enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1989. After graduating from Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Florida, she attended AMS “A” school in Millington, Tennessee and Naval Aircrewman School in Pensacola, Florida.

She reported to her first duty station HC-6 CHARGERS, Norfolk, Virgina, flying on H-46 Sea Knight helicopters. She accrued over 1,000 flight hours, completed three deployments, and was awarded her EAWS and ESWS qualifications. In 1993, she reported for her follow-on assignment with HC-2 FLEET ANGELS in Norfolk, Virginia, where she logged another 500 flights hours in VH/UH-3 Sea King helicopters and earned her Associate’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

She completed two tours with VC-6 FIREBEES in Little Creek and Norfolk, Virginia, as a Mission Commander/Coxswain aboard 56-foot orange seaborne target boats (SEPTARS). During her tour, she earned her Small Craft Pin and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and an Associates of Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales Culinary University.

In June 2003, she reported to VFA-143, PUKIN’ DOGS in Oceana, Virginia where she supported the squadron’s transition from F-14B Tomcat to the F/A-18E Super Hornet. As the Line Division LCPO, she completed two deployments and earned her Master’s in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In September 2007, she reported to VFA-106 GLADIATORS, world’s largest fighter jet squadron, Oceana, Virginia, to assume duties as the Aircraft Division LCPO. During her tour, she graduated from Everest Institute as a Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist.

In January 2009, she volunteered as an Individual Augmentee to Camp Bucca, southern Iraq, in support of detainee operations with NPDB 6. After returning from Iraq, she assumed the duties as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for VFA-106 until she was selected for the Command Senior Chief Program. She received orders to VX-30 BLOODHOUNDS, in Point Mugu, California where she was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer and ultimately selected for the Command Master Chief Program.

Command Master Chief Spence is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 159, Green),Command Leadership School, and currently serves as the Command Master Chief for VAW-126 SEAHAWKS in Norfolk, Virginia.
